Floating Harmony Oy / Olosauna

The winter wind bit at my cheeks as I walked down Vaakunakyläntie in Oulu. Snow crunched under my boots, and the air smelled of salt from the nearby sea. I spotted the floating structure ahead, bobbing gently on the water. It looked like a modern cabin, all clean lines and big windows. This was Olosauna, a public spot open to anyone looking for some warmth.
I parked nearby and headed inside. The place felt welcoming right away, with ramps for easy access. I changed in the simple room provided, grabbing a towel and seat cover from the stack. Everything I needed was there: shampoo, even water to sip. No fuss, just straightforward comfort.
Settling on the Benches
Steam rose as I entered the sauna. The heat wrapped around me slowly, easing the chill from outside. I sat on the wooden benches, listening to the soft hiss of water on hot stones. A few others were there, some chatting quietly, others just staring at the panoramic views through the glass. The city skyline mixed with the water's edge, making it feel like we were part of the landscape.
I threw some water on the stones, and the löyly built up, thick and cleansing. My skin tingled, and my thoughts slowed. It was easy to see why they call it a village sauna in the city: that sense of community without pressure. I stayed for a while, letting the warmth sink in deep.
Time blurred in the heat. When I felt ready, I stepped out, the cool air a quick contrast before the next part.
The Dock Plunge
Outside, the dock waited. Even in winter, they keep it open for dips. I walked to the edge, the water dark and still below. It was a straight drop from the floating platform. I jumped in, and the cold hit like a shock, pulling every bit of heat from my body. I surfaced gasping, but alive, the plunge washing away any leftover tension.
Back inside, I rinsed off in the shower. The panoramic views followed me everywhere, turning a simple rinse into something scenic. I dried off and headed to the relaxation room, where soft seats invited me to linger.
A Drink by the Water
The bar and restaurant area hummed with low voices. I ordered something from the cafe: one of their unique treats, paired with a drink. People sat around, some alone, others in groups, sharing stories or just watching the waves. Live music played softly in the background on some nights, though it was quiet during my visit. The space felt versatile, like it could host a meeting or a small gathering.
I sipped slowly, feeling renewed. The whole place encouraged that: coming as you are, leaving lighter. As I gathered my things to go, the floating sauna rocked gently, a reminder of its spot on the water. Oulu's coast had given me a good reset.
