Snow crunched under my boots as I walked up to Break Sokos Hotel Levi. The air bit cold, sharp with that Lapland chill, and the sky hung low over the alpine village. I had spent the day skiing the nearby slopes, my muscles tight from the effort. Inside the hotel, the lobby felt warm and inviting, a quick escape from the winter outside.

I checked in around four in the afternoon, right when the light started to fade. The room was simple but comfortable, with views of the surrounding hills. After settling in, I headed down to explore the sauna area. The hotel keeps its guest saunas heated every day from five until ten at night, which fit perfectly after my active day.

The First Wave of Heat

I changed in the dedicated room, grabbing a towel and heading to the sauna. The space had showers nearby, and everything felt clean and straightforward. Wheelchair access made it clear the hotel thought about different needs, and parking outside had been easy earlier.

Inside the sauna, the wood warmed slowly under me. Steam rose as I tossed water on the stones, and the heat built in layers. I sat there for a while, letting the tension melt from my shoulders. No fancy rituals, just that steady Finnish löyly easing the day's strain. After about twenty minutes, I stepped out to cool down, the contrast sharp against my skin.

A few other guests came and went, but it never felt crowded. The session ran until ten, so I dipped back in once more before calling it a night.

Dinner at Grill It

Fresh from the sauna, I wandered to one of the hotel's restaurants. Grill It sat right there, with a menu full of hearty options. I ordered a steak and some local sides, the food arriving hot and satisfying. The place had that casual vibe, perfect for unwinding.

While eating, I thought about the hotel's green efforts. They hold a Green Key certification and something called Sustainable Travel Finland, which showed in little ways, like the recycling bins around. It made the meal feel a bit more thoughtful.

After dinner, I considered the gym at Levi Wellness Club, open from four in the morning until late. But with the sauna's warmth still in me, I skipped it and headed back to my room.

Morning Light on the Hills

The next day started with breakfast in Ravintola Kiisa. They serve it from six to eleven on weekdays, a bit later on weekends. The spread included fresh breads, fruits, and hot dishes, enough to fuel another day outside.

As I ate, I looked out at the village. Levi sits north of the Arctic Circle, surrounded by tundra and trails. The hotel's spot in the heart of it all made getting around simple, with shops and activities just steps away. My visit had been short, but the sauna and the setting left me refreshed.

Checking out by noon, I stepped back into the cold, carrying that lingering sense of calm.
