The summer air carried a chill as I walked down the path to Iisakin rantasauna, right on the edge of Rukajärvi in Kuusamo. Lapland's vast forests stretched out around the lake, and the water looked calm under the long daylight. I had booked a spot through the Iisakki Village reception, since the sauna heats up daily for guests staying there.

Inside the log building, the wood-fired Aito stove was already going strong. The steam room stood separate from the changing and washing areas, which made the setup feel simple and traditional. I changed quickly and stepped into the heat, feeling the soft löyly build around me.

The Leap from the Pier

After a few rounds in the steam, I headed out to the pier. The lake access was right there, just steps from the sauna door. I jumped in, and the cool water shocked my skin after the warmth inside.

Floating in Rukajärvi, I watched the trees reflect on the surface. Nature surrounded everything here, with no city noise to break the quiet. Back on the pier, I shook off the water and returned for more heat. The cycle felt natural, like part of the landscape itself.

Later, I tried the outdoor hot tub nearby. It bubbled gently, a nice spot to relax between swims. The sauna's setup let me move easily from steam to tub to lake.

Booking the Private Hour

I decided to rent the whole place for my group one evening. We contacted the reception by phone, at +358 40 501 6041, and set it up without hassle. The rental included the steam room, changing areas, washing facilities, and the hot tub.

With just us there, the experience turned personal. We took our time, throwing water on the stove for those pleasant steams. The Sauna from Finland certificate hung on the wall, a quiet nod to the quality. Showers were available in the separate building, making cleanup easy after the session.

As the sun dipped low, we wrapped up and walked back through the woods. The visit lingered in my mind, tied to that lakeside spot in Lapland.
