Scandic CPH Strandpark

The wind off the Øresund carried a salty chill as I walked along Amager Strandvej toward the Scandic hotel. It was a gray Monday afternoon in Copenhagen, the kind where the low sky makes you crave warmth. I had booked a saunagus session, drawn by the promise of heat and sea air mixed together.
Inside the wellness area, the space felt modern and open, with clean lines and big windows looking out over the water. I changed into my towel and joined a small group in the sauna room. The gusmester greeted us quietly, explaining how the next ninety minutes would unfold with three rounds of heat and aromas.
We settled on the wooden benches, and the air started to warm. It cost 295 DKK for the session, which runs on Mondays and Wednesdays, and it felt worth it from the start.
The Gusmester's First Wave
Our guide, one of Denmark's skilled gusmestres, began with a towel flick that sent steam rolling over us. He mixed essential oils into water and poured it over the hot stones, filling the room with scents that eased the mind. It was a blend of aromatherapy and meditation, with the heat building slowly as he fanned the air.
We breathed deep, chatting softly between waves. The social side came naturally, people sharing stories from their day. Each round felt unique, as he drew on his specialties to vary the intensity and the oils used.
By the second pour, sweat beaded on my skin, and the warmth sank into my muscles. It mixed enjoyment with a quiet focus, like a shared ritual by the sea.
Stepping Out to the Sea
After the heat peaked, we stepped outside for a dip in the Øresund. The cold water shocked my body, waves lapping against the shore as I plunged in. It was invigorating, the salt on my skin contrasting the sauna's dry heat.
Back inside, we repeated the cycle twice more, each time the gusmester guiding us through with care. The pool nearby offered another way to cool down, but the sea felt more alive, tied to the location near the strand.
As the session wrapped up, I lingered in the relaxation area, feeling balanced in body and mind. The whole experience left me refreshed, ready to face the windy walk back.
