Hawkhill Oy

The drive from Helsinki took about 45 minutes, winding through quiet roads until I reached the edge of Nuuksio National Park. I had booked a stay at one of the cottages at Hawkhill, drawn by the promise of saunas right by the lake. The air felt crisp that autumn afternoon, with leaves turning gold around the forest paths.
When I arrived, the place felt secluded. My cottage, a sturdy log building, sat on its own patch of land with direct access to the water. I unpacked quickly and headed straight for the sauna, eager to shake off the city's hum.
Inside, the wood smelled fresh, like pine from the surrounding trees. I heated it up slowly, letting the warmth build as I looked out at the lake through a small window.
Dipping into the Lake After the Heat
The session lasted a couple of hours, the kind where you lose track of time. Steam rose thick when I tossed water on the stones, filling the room with that deep, earthy scent. I stepped out to cool off, and the path led right to the lake's edge.
The water was cold but inviting, especially after the sauna's glow. I plunged in, feeling the chill wake every part of me. Back on shore, I sat for a bit, watching birds skim the surface. The forest wrapped around everything, making the spot feel private even though the site could hold up to 50 people for bigger groups.
Later, I tried the hot tub nearby, bubbles easing the last bits of tension. It overlooked the panoramic view of trees and water, a nice spot to linger as the sun dipped low.
Dinner at the Forest Restaurant
Hunger set in as evening came, so I walked over to the forest restaurant on site. It was a cozy setup, with simple tables amid the trees. They served local dishes, hearty enough after a day outdoors.
I ate slowly, thinking about the activities available year-round, like rowing on the lake or winter hikes. The wifi worked fine if I needed it, but I mostly left my phone aside to enjoy the quiet. Prices for the cottages varied by size, from spots for four guests up to ten, fitting different group needs.
As night fell, I returned to my cottage, the path lit softly. The whole visit felt like a gentle retreat, blending sauna time with nature's rhythm.
