The gravel crunched under my tires as I pulled into the parking lot at Urpolan Kartano. Humppila felt quiet that afternoon, with fields stretching out under a gray Finnish sky. I had heard about this place from a friend, a manor turned sauna haven in the Lakeland region.

Inside the main building, the air carried a faint scent of fresh bread from the restaurant. I wandered through, noting the historical touches in the woodwork and high ceilings. Soon enough, I met Leena, one of the hosts, who greeted me with a smile and led the way to the sauna area out back.

Stepping Into the Smoke Sauna

The path wound through a wide park, trees dotting the grass all the way to the lake's edge. Leena pointed out the seven saunas scattered around, each one different. I started with the traditional smoke sauna, its dark wooden walls promising that old-time warmth.

Inside, the heat built slow and steady, smoke lingering in the air from the earlier fire. I sat on the bench, letting the steam wrap around me. It felt grounding, like connecting to something ancient in this Finnish landscape. After a while, I stepped out and headed for the lake access nearby. The water was cool and clear, a quick dip that sharpened everything.

Mikko, the other host, came by later with a nod. He mentioned how they built this sauna world as their dream project. It showed in the care put into each spot.

Up in the Treehouse

Climbing the steps to the treehouse sauna felt like an adventure. Perched high among the branches, it overlooked the park and the distant lake. The modern design let in views through wide windows, blending the heat with the outside world.

I settled in, the warmth rising faster here than in the smoke one. Birds chirped outside, and I could see the hot tub down below, steaming gently. It was a shift from the earthy smoke sauna, more open and light. After sweating it out, I made my way down and eased into the hot tub. The bubbles soothed my muscles, with the nature all around keeping things peaceful.

The whole area invited lingering. I spent a couple of hours moving between saunas, no rush in the schedule. Prices depend on what you book, but for a solo visit like mine, it ran reasonable, especially with the restaurant options afterward.

The Landscape Sauna's Quiet Close

Toward evening, I tried the modern landscape sauna. It sat low to the ground, designed to frame the views of the fields and water. The heat came even, not overpowering, with plenty of space inside for a small group.

As the sun dipped, the light changed, casting long shadows over the park. I reflected on the variety here, from smoky depths to airy heights. It made for a full afternoon in Humppila's calm setting. Walking back to the manor, I passed the restaurant again, tempted by the smells but ready to head out.
