Saunatrucken

The wind off the fjord carried a salty chill as I walked along the docks in Vejle. It was a Saturday afternoon, and the yacht harbor hummed with quiet activity, boats bobbing gently in the water. I had heard about Saunatrucken, a mobile sauna setup right there by the water, and decided to try one of their sessions.

I arrived just before the start, paid the 160 DKK at the entrance, and stepped inside the truck. The space felt cozy, with wooden benches arranged in a semi-circle, and a small group of locals already settling in. The gusmester greeted us with a nod, explaining we'd have about 75 minutes to cycle through heat, breathwork, and cold.

When the Oils Hit the Stones

The heat built up slowly at first, steam rising as the gusmester poured water over the hot stones. He added drops of essential oils, and soon the air filled with their scent, mixing with the faint salt from outside. We focused on our breathing, following his guidance to inhale deeply and let go of the day's clutter.

It was a small group, maybe eight of us, and the gusmester created a sense of togetherness without much talk. He waved a towel to fan the heat around, building it in waves that matched our breaths. The view through the window showed the fjord's waves rolling in, a reminder of the nature just beyond the city bustle.

After a round, we stepped out for a break, the fresh breeze cooling our skin before heading back in. The rhythm felt natural: heat pulling tension away, then a pause to reset.

The Dip into the Tub

Finally, it was time for the cold part. The isbad waited outside, a tub filled with icy water that promised a sharp contrast. I eased in, the chill biting at first but then turning invigorating as I sank deeper. Others followed, some laughing, others quiet, all sharing that moment of release.

Back inside for one more heat cycle, the gusmester kept the energy inclusive, encouraging us to follow our own pace. By the end, my mind felt clearer, recharged from the play of warmth and cold. These sessions run on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, fitting nicely into a weekend in Jutland.

As I left, walking back along the harbor path, the fjord air felt even fresher against my warmed skin.
