Sauna fyn Langeland

The wind off the Baltic carried a salty chill as I pulled up to Strandvej 107 in Skårup. It was a gray afternoon on Fyn, the kind where the sea blends into the sky. I had heard about Sauna Fyn Langeland through a friend who mentioned their unique take on sauna sessions, drawing from banya traditions. The place sits right by the water, part of what looks like a kiosk setup called Strandkiosken - Skårupøre.
I parked and walked over, spotting the sauna structure near the shore. A sign pointed to the entrance, and I paid the 165 DKK fee at the door. Inside, the gusmester greeted me with a nod, explaining how they train certified banyamestres here, the only spot in Denmark for that, in partnership with the World Banya Association and Dansk Sauna Laug.
The Oils from Their Own Trees
We started with the first round of banyagus. The gusmester had set up three sessions, each lasting about 12 to 14 minutes, inspired by banya styles. He selected essential oils and herbs, all produced from their own trees and plants on site. The scent filled the air as he waved them around, mixing with soft music that played in the background.
I settled on the wooden bench, feeling the heat build. The steam carried notes of fresh herbs, earthy and sharp. Between us, a few other visitors breathed deeply, following the rhythm. It felt like a quiet ritual, focused on the warmth and the aromas.
After that first round, I stepped out for a break. The gusmester mentioned their training in breathing techniques, part of the certifications they offer. I tried to match my inhales to the pace he suggested, letting the session sink in.
The Dip Between Rounds
The sea waited just outside, ready for cooling off. I walked down to the water's edge, where the waves lapped gently against the shore. The air was crisp, and I plunged in for a quick dip, the cold biting into my skin after the sauna's heat. It refreshed me, pulling the warmth from my core.
Back inside for the second round, the gusmester adjusted the oils, choosing a different blend this time. The music shifted too, keeping things varied. We went through the motions again, the steam rising and the herbs working their way into the air. By the third round, I felt the full effect, relaxed and clear-headed.
Outside again, I opted for the ice-cooled tub instead of the sea. It stood nearby, filled with chilled water that shocked my system. The whole experience wrapped up after those three rounds, leaving me with a sense of calm as I dried off and headed back to my car.
