Forum Horsens

The autumn chill hung in the air as I walked along Langmarksvej in Horsens. This town in eastern Jutland has that quiet Danish charm, with its mix of modern buildings and open spaces near the fjord. I had heard about the Aquaforum, part of a larger complex, and decided to check out their sauna sessions on a Tuesday evening. The entrance felt straightforward, like stepping into a community pool house.
Inside, the air carried a faint chlorine scent from the nearby pool. I paid the entrance fee plus fifty kroner for the sauna access. That covered all three sessions starting at six, though you could pick which ones to join. I figured I'd try the first two, each lasting about forty-five minutes. The place drew a mix of locals, some chatting quietly in Danish as they changed.
The Steam Building in the First Round
We filed into the sauna room right at six. The heat started mild, but the gusmester waved his towel to build it up. Sweat broke out quickly on my skin. The group sat on wooden benches, breathing in the rising warmth.
After about fifteen minutes, we stepped out for a break. I headed straight to the cold bath, plunging in up to my neck. The water shocked my system, cold and sharp, pulling the heat right out. A few others did the same, while some opted for the pool nearby. That dip in the larger pool felt refreshing, with its calmer temperature easing the transition back to normal.
Back in the sauna for the second phase, the air grew thicker. I focused on my breathing, letting the session unfold. No fancy oils or themes here, just straightforward heat and steam.
Skipping the Last Session
By the end of the second round at seven, I felt plenty warmed through. The third one started at eight, but I chose to skip it. Others stayed, wrapping towels around themselves as they waited. I rinsed off in the showers, noting how the sessions ran on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays too, though those cost just an extra twenty-five kroner on top of entry.
Drying off, I thought about the simple setup. No frills, but the cold bath and pool made for good contrasts to the heat. The whole visit left me relaxed, ready to face the cool evening outside.
Walking back through the quiet streets of Horsens, I appreciated how these weekday rituals fit into everyday life here. The fjord breeze picked up as I headed away from the forum.
