Gigantium

The bus dropped me off near the edge of Aalborg, where the city meets wide open spaces. Gigantium sat there, a big modern complex with clean lines and glass fronts, the kind of place that blends sports halls with relaxation spots. I had heard about their saunagus sessions and timed my visit for a weekday afternoon, curious about how they ran things in this part of Denmark.

I paid the 25 DKK entry fee at the front desk, which covered access to everything, including the saunagus. The place felt welcoming, with people coming in from work or workouts. I changed in the locker room and headed to the wellness area, where the sessions happened after the morning hours.

Settling into the Heat

The sauna room was spacious, with wooden benches arranged in tiers. A few others joined, keeping to themselves as we waited for the session to start. It lasted about 60 minutes, building slowly with waves of steam.

The attendant poured water over the stones, and the heat rose in layers. I felt it wrap around me, pulling out the chill from the Danish wind outside. They did these saunagus every other hour during opening times, so I could have caught another if I stayed longer.

After the first round, we stepped out to the cold bath. The water hit sharp and quick, a jolt that cleared my head. Nearby, a pool offered a gentler cool-down for those who preferred it.

The Wellness Shift on Thursday

I picked a Thursday for my visit, when they run special wellnessgus sessions. These felt a bit different, more focused on relaxation with infused scents in the air. The morning ones happen in the family sauna, but by afternoon, everything moves to the wellness department, which suited me fine.

People chatted lightly between rounds, sharing tips on breathing through the heat. I liked how the sessions were included in the entry, no extra charge. It made the whole experience feel straightforward, like a regular part of the day here in Aalborg.

Outside, the Limfjord breeze carried a salty edge, mixing with the steam's memory on my skin. I walked back through the parking lot, thinking about the rhythm of these daily rituals, available every day of the week.
