Aurora Sauna - Sørlandet Feriesenter, Risør.

The road to Risør wound along the coast, past white wooden houses and rocky shores typical of southern Norway. I arrived at Sørlandet Feriesenter in the late afternoon, with the sun dipping low over Sandnesfjorden. The air carried a salty tang, and I parked for free right on the campsite grounds.
Aurora Sauna sat right at the water's edge, a sleek structure that blended into the landscape. I had booked a private session, figuring it would suit a quiet evening alone. They open from early morning until almost midnight, so timing was easy.
When the Lights Came On
I stepped inside with my towel, swimwear, and water bottle in hand. The space felt simple and clean, heated just right for building steam without overwhelming at first. As I settled on the bench, the artificial northern lights flickered to life, casting green and purple glows through the vapor.
The effect turned the steam into something alive, like ribbons of color dancing in the heat. I breathed in deep, letting the warmth sink into my muscles while the fjord view stretched out through the window. It mixed calm with a touch of wonder, especially as dusk fell outside.
After a while, the heat built up, and I needed to cool off. The source suggested a dip in the fjord, so I slipped out and waded into the chilly water. It shocked my skin, but in a good way, pulling me back to the present.
Sharing the Steam Later
On my way back, I noticed the option for shared sessions too, which might draw couples or friends looking for that social vibe. Showers and toilets waited nearby on the campsite, practical after rinsing off the salt.
Inside again, I lingered a bit longer, watching the lights play against the walls. The whole setup captured that southern Norwegian idyll, with the fjord's quiet expanse right there. No rush, just the rhythm of heat and cool.
As I left, the night had fully settled, and the artificial aurora still glowed softly from the sauna. Walking back to my car, I felt refreshed, ready for whatever came next in Risør's coastal stretch.
