Nausta - Flytende Badstue i Molde

The chill of the fjord air greeted me as I walked along the waterfront in Molde. It was a crisp autumn day, with the water lapping gently against the docks. I had heard about this floating sauna inspired by the old boathouses that once lined the shore here. Nausta sits right in the heart of town, offering a spot to warm up and take in the views.
I arrived for a drop-in session, no booking needed beyond securing my spot for myself. The place can hold up to twelve people, but that afternoon it was just a handful of us. We changed in the large wardrobe area, which had plenty of space, a warm shower, and shelves for our things. It felt easy to leave the day's rush behind.
Stepping into the Heat
Inside the sauna room, the warmth wrapped around me like a blanket. The wood was smooth underfoot, and the air carried a simple, clean scent. We settled on the benches, chatting lightly about the town and the mountains in the distance.
The heat built steadily, drawing out the tension from my muscles. I glanced out the window at Moldefjorden stretching away, with Romsdalen's peaks rising sharp against the sky. It was the kind of view that makes you pause and just breathe. After a while, the warmth pushed me toward the next step: the sea outside.
This spot lets you bathe year-round, no matter the season. I appreciated how it draws from Molde's history as a sea town, turning those old boathouse ideas into something modern and inviting.
The Roof Ladder Dip
We climbed up to the roof, where a ladder leads straight down to the water. The fjord looked calm, but I knew it would be cold. One by one, we took the plunge, jumping in or easing down the steps. The shock of the sea hit me hard, a rush that woke every nerve.
Back inside, the sauna felt even better after that chill. I repeated the cycle a couple of times, alternating heat and cold. It was a good way to shake off the everyday grind.
Others joined for the drop-in, some locals, some visitors like me. The mix made it social without feeling crowded. If I wanted privacy, I could have booked the whole place for a group of twelve, but the shared vibe suited the day.
Lingering on the Dock
As the session wound down, I stepped out onto the dock, towel around my shoulders. The sun was dipping lower, casting a soft light over the water and the town. Molde's center buzzed quietly nearby, with shops and cafes a short walk away.
I dried off in the changing room, using the warm shower to rinse the salt. The whole visit left me relaxed, with that post-sauna glow. It's a spot that fits right into the fjord life here, blending warmth and the wild outdoors.
