The drive from Mandal center took about ten minutes, winding along the coast until I reached Tregde ferie. Salt air mixed with the scent of pine as I pulled up. It was a crisp autumn afternoon, the kind where the light slants low over the water. I had heard this spot drew locals, overnight guests, and folks like me just passing through southern Norway.

Inside, the modern sauna felt welcoming, built for up to six people. I changed in the nearby rooms and stepped into the heat alone at first, letting it build slowly on my skin. The wood warmed underfoot, and I settled on a bench, gazing out at the harbor view through a window. It was quiet, just the soft hiss of steam.

Soon, a couple of friends joined, turning it into a small gathering. We followed a simple routine, heating up then stepping out to cool down.

Between the Heat Waves

Outside the sauna, we unpacked a picnic basket with snacks and drinks, as suggested by the place. We sat chatting, overlooking the cozy harbor where boats bobbed gently. The conversation flowed easy, touching on the day's travels and the feel of the archipelago around us.

That break refreshed us before heading back in. The heat wrapped around again, deeper this time, pulling out the tension from the road. We repeated the cycle a few times, each round loosening us up more.

The setup encouraged this rhythm, with easy access to showers nearby for rinsing off.

The Refreshing Dip

Right outside, the water waited for a swim. I took the plunge into the cool archipelago sea, a sharp contrast that woke every nerve. It was invigorating, especially in the fading light of the season. Back on shore, the chill lingered just long enough to appreciate the sauna's warmth waiting inside.

We did this a couple of times, mixing swims with sauna sessions. The combination felt good for body and mind, like the source of those good memories the place promised. Even in cooler months, it seemed built for year-round use.

To wrap up, we headed to the restaurant for dinner, ending the evening on a full note. The whole visit left me relaxed, with that harbor view stuck in my thoughts as I drove back.
