The drive from Oslo took about an hour, winding through quiet countryside roads until I spotted the cabin nestled among the pines. Espa felt like a step back in time, with its rolling fields and the vast Lake Mjøsa shimmering in the distance. I had booked a night at Konglehytta to pair with the sauna session, as they go hand in hand here.

The cabin itself caught my eye right away, handmade in that old Nordic style with smooth, curved lines. It was small but cozy, the kind of place that invites you to slow down. I dropped my bag inside, noting the made beds and the simple kitchen setup, everything ready for a short stay.

Stepping Into the Oval Heat

The Iglusauna sat nearby, its oval shape promising something different from the usual boxy designs. I fired it up in the late afternoon, the wood stove humming softly as the warmth built. It was simple inside, nothing fancy, but that charm drew me in. With room for four, it felt intimate even alone.

I settled on the bench, letting the heat wrap around me. Through the window, Lake Mjøsa stretched out, calm and blue under the fading light. The session lasted about thirty minutes, just enough to sink into the quiet rhythm of it all.

Afterward, I stepped out into the crisp air, feeling that familiar glow. The terrace on the cabin offered a spot to sit with a view of the water, towel in hand.

Lingering by the Lake View

Konglehytta is the only one like it in Norway, built by the same folks who made the sauna, Iglucraft. That uniqueness added to the appeal, turning a quick visit into a mini escape. I had come with a friend, and we took turns in the sauna, chatting about the day's drive from the airport, only thirty minutes away.

The place suited a getaway for two, whether with a partner or a pal. Nature surrounded us, yet the cabin had all the basics: towels waiting, a kitchen for a simple meal. We watched the sun dip behind the hills, the lake turning silver.

By evening, I felt refreshed, the combination of heat and scenery leaving a quiet satisfaction. It was easy to see why this spot stands out in Eastern Norway's rural stretch.
